APFG Outer Barrel Steel Upgrade Kit
Reinforced steel solution for one of the most common weak points of the original APFG setup.
The original APFG outer barrel is widely known for its fragility, especially when a suppressor or tracer unit is installed. In many cases, the factory setup lacks the rigidity needed for stable and reliable mounting.
Our steel upgrade kit is designed specifically to solve this weakness. By replacing the original components with precision-machined steel parts, the platform becomes significantly stronger, more stable, and fully ready for practical suppressor use.
Key Features
- One-piece steel outer barrel for maximum rigidity and durability
- 9.0 mm inner diameter
- M14x1 left-hand thread for suppressor / tracer compatibility
- One-piece steel gas block replacing the weaker original design
- Improved structural stability under external load
- Ideal upgrade for users who want a more robust and dependable front-end setup
- Weight: around 700g
Why Upgrade?
| Original APFG Setup | Steel Upgrade Kit |
|---|---|
| Known weak point | Reinforced steel construction |
| Suppressor mounting can be problematic | Stable and reliable suppressor-ready design |
| Lower rigidity under load | High rigidity and improved alignment stability |
| Factory cost-oriented design | Performance-focused upgrade solution |
Package Includes
- 1x One-piece steel outer barrel
- 1x CNC aluminum gas block
- Pins and screws for installation
Important Note
The dummy gas pressure adjustment key is not included.
Please reuse the original part from your replica and install it directly onto the gas block.
Conclusion
If you want to run a suppressor properly or simply eliminate one of the most fragile areas of the original APFG platform, this steel upgrade kit is the direct and effective solution.
Built for users who value strength, stability, and long-term durability.

FAQs
Quality Standard
Product Characteristics & Cosmetic Standards
Our products are manufactured using precision machining and industrial finishing processes. As a result, minor cosmetic characteristics may be present, including but not limited to light machining marks, tool traces, finish variations, minor surface marks, slight discoloration, or light surface oxidation where applicable.
In mechanical systems, slight movement, wobble, or play between components may occur due to designed tolerances and does not affect function or performance.
These characteristics are purely cosmetic or tolerance-related, fall within normal manufacturing standards of the airsoft industry, and do not constitute a product defect.
Returns or warranty claims based solely on such cosmetic or tolerance-related characteristics may therefore be declined in accordance with our return policy.
Light surface oxidation (rust), where applicable, is a normal material property and can typically be removed through routine maintenance (e.g., WD-40 and a soft brush).

The first batch of barrels came with a major issue, where the screw holes were not only off center but also not lined up with each other as well. I then discovered that an email had been sent earlier from clutch about the issue and that newer barrels will be sent out automatically free of charge asap. So I held off on making the review until it arrived.
(Old Barrel)
I still ran the old barrel in the meantime, as it felt better than no threads at all. And, I found that only using one side of screws with a bunch of threadlock held up for now. It was also important to use the stock screws as the screws provided were also too long and would dig into the inner barrel. Everything was still slightly canted, but one side was off much less than the other and the piston still hit the gas block (but still a small noticeable gap when not in motion, this is normal but my stock barrel had no gap). But it also meant that to use the barrel, I had to remove the barrel stabilizer thats connected to the gas block for it to fit in the handguard as well. The finish of the barrel was okay with a really solid black. While, the gas block’s was very crude but at least matched the color of the barrel. Lastly, installing the inner barrel back in was really tight fit and required some “encouragement” to get in and out, which was a problem when coming to getting the hop nub aligned right. I damaged my stock inner barrel trying to remove it bc of how tough it was. But I was replacing it with a unicorn barrel anyways, so I wasn’t worried about preserving the stock barrel after a few tries.
(New Barrel)
The new barrel shipped out within a week or two and then arrived a week later. Everything definitely lines up now and the screws provided this time were true to size and theres a more positive contact with the gas block and piston this time with no gap. The barrel finish itself was much better and I prefer it over stock as it is more like VFC’s steel AR barrels, which has a more grayish color. I don’t know which is more realistic compared to the irl counterpart, however I do not mind. The new gas block, on the other hand, has an improved finish, but matches the old steel barrels finish. Which means that, the gas block is a stark solid black versus the gray barrel which can be off putting for some. But, I find that the handguard covers most of it anyways. Also the inner barrel and hop chamber slides and secures itself perfectly now and isn’t a tight fit anymore.
Pros:
- Full steel one piece barrel
- Nice weight (I really want to feel one of the reasons why people hate the irl counterpart as the AFPG was already lighter than expected)
- Hop chamber fitment is not too tight (anymore)
- Fixed (replaced) my threads
- Fast response over the first barrel issues and free replacement for said issues
Cons:
- Weight (Not a fault of the barrel itself but the upgrade as a whole since it’s adding a lot of weight replacing the entire barrel with steel versus only the front gas block barrel set with new threads which can be a turn off for some)
- Color and finish mix match between the barrel and gas block
- Pins and hop chamber fitment for the first batch barrel (this is not an issue with the latest barrel I received but I do find it a common issue of the fit being way too tight at times with other barrels. So, I don’t know if that will be true for future batches but as of now it’s good)
- Having a bad first batch in the first place. (I understand that this was a pre-order and I really appreciate the quick support and complementary replacement barrels, especially not needing to send back the old one. From what I assume, they do ship straight from the factory, most likely to meet the pre-order deadlines and reduce the wait for preorders in general. But, this does miss on the qc. Having good support regarding replacements is a good thing, but I wonder about the logistics and cost of production. I do not mind waiting an extra few weeks after waiting a while already to get a replacement (as long as there is updates). However, I also wouldn’t mind waiting the same amount of time to ship the barrels to clutch and doing a quick qc before shipping out to the customers, to catch the barrel misalignment problem that was with a majority of the first batch barrels)
Overall, I really am satisfied with the upgrade after everything. I do appreciate the updates regarding the issue and automatic replacement for all orders. But for pre-orders, expect some problems but I would check support for any updates. I would’ve appreciated having a basic installation guide similar to the VFC AK105 kit though, as there is limited information about the APFG out as of now. And the only compromise at the end of the day is the color mixmatch of the gas block and barrel if that is a deal breaker.
